Filmmaking
4 weekly workshops - 1.5 hrs each meeting
Gain tools and materials to complete a short film using the equipment in your home. We will screen professional short films, learn filming techniques, create stories, and learn about the production process.

Join instructor Bridget Johnson as she teaches the foundations of Filmmaking. From scriptwriting, to storyboarding, to production and editing, each session will guide you in the creation of your own short film. Open to all skill levels, this course provides the framework for any and all aspiring filmmakers. All you need to bring is creativity, a camera (your phone works!) and you!
As an artist, video editing is the most useful skill in today’s social media world. Videos are one of the strongest tools to gain an audience, promote yourself or your work, or to create paid content. This short course will teach you everything you need to know about creating successful, artistic videos and special short films. Join class and get ready to capture your creative ideas on film!
Course Curriculum
Lesson 1: Intro to Filmmaking
- Introduction, short film screening and breaking it down by shots, dialogue, plot, and think through the production process.
- Short exercise with different techniques.
Lesson 2: Script writing and Storyboarding
- Exercise - storyboard a scene together and shoot it.
Lesson 3: Production
- Create a shooting schedule, shot list, and production logs.
- Exercise - critique each other’s scripts and break into groups to work through the production process.
Lesson 4: Post-production
- Learning to edit your short film with Lightworks.
- At the end of this course you will be invited to upload your films on the course discussion group and community forum for feedback and applause

● Recording device (a phone, camera, anything you want to explore)
● Device stand or a stack of books (we’ll play around with how to set up a steady shot)
● Paper and writing utensils
● Storyboard template (to be provided by Bridget)

Bridget Johnson | Filmmaker
Bridget Johnson is a filmmaker and educator. Her filmmaking practice involves post-production and stop motion animation. She loves collaborating with other artists and using collage as a tool to bring different art forms together. Most recently her stop motion animated poem was a finalist in the Shift Film Festival. She is an experienced educator and loves nothing more than sharing this amazing practice with others!
