  Workshop Outline

Zine Making (One-day Workshop)

  • A short group discussion about the history of zines and the experimental exploration of art in zine form.
  • The group will experience a single sheet booklet zine structure using just one sheet of paper and start planning the content they can present with it.

Have you ever wanted to create your own zine? In this workshop, artist and instructor Andreas Laszlo Konrath will teach you all you need to know to plan, craft and write your own zines, while touching upon the historical and theoretical aspects of zine-culture. He has been published in some of the most famous publications from London to New York, so he certainly knows a thing or two. If you have an interest in art, photography and want to learn how to self-publish your work - then this is the place for you!

So what exactly is “Zine?” If you’ve never heard of it, you’re missing out! Zine-making began as an artform for marginalized voices, disseminating information and publishing creative work about things they love. A zine is commonly a small publication of bricolage works featuring appropriated texts, images, poems, etc, circulated to a small group with a common interest, or representing a particular voice. Here are a few examples of what you can do with your unique zine art:

  • Publish sketches, drawings, and mini-comics
  • Match recipes with whimsical illustrations
  • Mix words with images and textures
  • Print lines of poetry
  • Share a manifesto

…the list goes on. What you can include in and do within your zine is only limited by your own imagination!

Perfect intro class

Lliam Greguez

Descriptive overview and nice first project. Andreas is a knowledgeable and instructive teacher. The Zine Making workshop was a wonderful venture into craftiness and a fine expansion to my photography skills. I was very happy to participate and be inspired to try new ways of distributing ice images. Andreas was an excellent teacher, kept a perfect pace, and got everyone involved.
